Your privacy matters
The short version
GuideStation does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact details. Every calculator runs entirely in your browser — the figures you enter are never sent to our servers or stored in any database. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, with the safeguards described below.
What happens when you use a calculator
All the maths runs client-side, in your browser. We don't have a backend server or database that receives your inputs, so the numbers you type — your salary, your savings, your bond amount — stay on your device.
For analytics, when you interact with a calculator we record which tool you used and which fields you adjusted. But we only ever send a broad range — for example “income: R500k–R700k” — never the exact figure you entered. That lets us see which tools are genuinely useful without ever knowing your personal financial details.
When you click through to a provider
Some tools link out to providers — for instance to get an insurance quote or to read about a retirement annuity. When you click one of those links, you leave GuideStation and go to that provider's own website.
We record that a click happened and which provider you chose, but no personal information travels with you. It's a standard web link with campaign tracking parameters (UTMs) attached, so we can measure which tools are generating interest — nothing more.
Once you're on a provider's site, their privacy policy applies. They may ask for personal details to generate a quote. GuideStation has no access to, and no control over, that information.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand overall traffic patterns — which pages are visited, and how people find the site.
GA4 sets cookies and collects standard technical information, including your IP address (which Google anonymises), your browser type, your device type, and your approximate location. We do not use GA4's advertising features, remarketing, or demographic reporting.
If you'd rather not be measured at all, you can opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing Google's browser opt-out add-on.
What we don't do
- We don't ask for or store your name, email, phone number, or any contact details.
- We don't create user accounts or require sign-up.
- We don't use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
- We don't use remarketing or retargeting.
- We don't send you marketing emails (we don't have your email).
POPIA
GuideStation is a South African site and respects the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Because we don't collect personal information directly, our POPIA obligations are limited. Even so, we take the spirit of the Act seriously: minimising what we collect, being transparent about it, and giving you control through your browser settings and the analytics opt-out above.
If you have any questions or concerns about your data, please email us.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if our practices change. Last updated: 5 June 2026.
